How Do I Find My Why as a Founder?
By Becky Winter
Most founders start with a clear reason. Then the to-do list grows, the pressure builds, and that reason gets buried. If you feel busy but not sure what it's all for, you haven't lost your why. You've just stopped hearing it.
Start with what made you begin
Think back to the moment you decided to start. What problem annoyed you? Who did you want to help? Write it down in plain words, without trying to make it sound like a mission statement.
Notice what gives you energy
Look at the last month. Which pieces of work left you feeling more alive, and which drained you? Your why usually lives close to the work you'd happily do even on a hard day.
Check it against your values
A why that clashes with your values won't last. Ask yourself what you refuse to compromise on. Your purpose should sit comfortably alongside those answers.
Turn it into decisions
A why is only useful if it shapes what you say yes and no to. Try using it as a filter for your next big choice. If you'd like help doing this properly, that's exactly what a discovery chat is for.
