How to Make Business Decisions That Honour Your Values
By Becky Winter
Growing a business means making a lot of decisions, often quickly. When you're tired or under pressure, it's easy to choose what looks sensible on paper but feels wrong. Here's a simple way to slow down and choose well.
Name the real decision
Write down the choice in one sentence. Often the real decision is hiding behind a smaller one, such as whether to grow at all, rather than which tool to buy.
Hold it up to your values
For each option, ask: does this fit what I care about? Would I be proud to explain this choice to the people I serve?
Check the cost to you
Some options win on money but cost you time, energy or wellbeing. Count those costs too. A human-first business includes the human running it.
Decide and review
Make the call, set a date to check in, and adjust if needed. Good decisions aren't perfect ones; they're honest ones you can learn from.
